THE WHY

Laili Lau is a brand characterized by thoughtful design. Since its foundation in 2012, the designer has understood each of her pieces as an artistic extension of herself. Throughout various collections, she has unveiled a concept that encapsulates her aesthetic sense and her nature-driven and socially conscious side. The brand has always aimed to be conscious, ethical, and season-less so that each garment becomes a sort of collectible piece: beautiful, desirable, and durable.

THE HOW

She is inspired by art as much as by her natural surroundings. Thus, her designs often feature a combination of modern and natural elements. One of Lau’s talents is her ability to mix colors and textures while playing with volumes and shapes to develop an aesthetic theme. Every collection is a slight evolution of the previous one, introducing new elements but maintaining a common thread in colors and fabrics. From the most recent to the very first, all pieces fit together in harmony.

THE PROCESS

Laili Lau’s creative approach privileges a sense of purpose. She aims to craft appealing and comfortable clothes that redefine femininity without giving in to the fashion industry. Seasonality and other conventional demands push aside to uphold an artisanal approach: small-scale paced production reduces unnecessary waste. Additionally, the brand frequently donates scraps from its output to creative workshops for communities in need and uses deadstock and scraps from others to make its garments.

THE DESIGNER

Laili Lau is a Venezuelan-born and raised fashion designer, grew up in the ever-green Caracas valley, and is currently living in Brooklyn, New York. With an Asian and Latin American mixed household and her innate sensibility towards textures and color present in nature, she developed a unique style that comes through since she first started sewing garments back in 2005. After several professional and educational experiences, her apparel brand became a formal entity in 2012.
Her main drive is to reflect the sense of wonder produced by the natural world and the power of femininity.
